PRESIDENT MARION'S UPDATE

"We’ve also prepared a treat for you at the lunch on the 16 December when we will have a different type of meeting – one that celebrates our wonderful Australian talent with a musical offering by David Kram and fundraising support of our member, Susan Barton’s Lighthouse, and all the young children so affected by family challenges, especially at this time of the year.

We’ve also organised for you to have a hamper delivered for the same price as the normal lunch at the Sofitel - and some groups have decided to make this a group outing where they can meet with members of their group, share some fellowship and listen to the meeting together.  Lookout for the flyer on this in the next few days.

We’d also like to invite you to a cluster event on the evening of 1 December, when our District Governor Philip Archer will share his Christmas message to us all.

This year has been packed with the efforts of our club to attempt ‘business as usual’, at the same time as being in lockdown.  Aound the Bay in a day did a spectacular fundraising without actually leaving the building!  Whilst, Jim Orchard with the help of some of our members, managed to continue to deliver the much needed roadworthy caravans in the few windows that we had to deliver them.

COVID has had an impact on all of us, and on mental health, and I believe that this may have contributed to some of the very challenging issues we faced this year.  We hope our great club recovers quickly with the help of being able to meet and support one another in person again and to be able to see our families more regularly.

Our ‘Healing the Hurt’ champion, Pam Brown, has managed to organise, with the support of Norman Taralrud-Bay, a robust support group for mental health and they are now preparing to extend this into the regions.  Our ‘Family Safety’, program is going from strength to strength.

Our speakers program this year has really filled the gaps presented by not meeting face to face and we’ve shared the most extraordinary speakers.  Our amazing debaters provided another first on the Zoom platform.  Last week’s ‘Happy as Larry’ lunch guest Shane Jacobsen allowed us to enjoy some comedy and fun.

Enjoy the last few days of November and all the best in your preparation for the run to Christmas.

Kind Regards,

Marion Macleod
