When COVID hit, the collections were suspended for the many reasons, you will all appreciate.
The position now is that we can recommence collections but with the passage of time, people’s concerns and the many COVID driven changes in people’s personal circumstances being such, we simply do not have enough continuing volunteers to be able to develop a reasonable roster where the time commitment is not too onerous.
WE NEED SOME MORE VOLUNTEER COLLECTORS IF THE COLLECTIONS ARE TO CONTINUE.
The task is simple – each Sunday at around 3.30pm, usually 4 rostered members assemble at Prahran Market, meet the SecondBite van and Driver, gather the donated food from the stall holders and sort the goods preparatory to it going into the van for ultimate distribution. The time commitment is usually about an hour and a half – rarely much longer so you can be home to watch the 5pm news!!
You are rostered with other Melbourne Rotary members about once every 4 weeks or so and as we have found in the past, it is a great way for newer members to meet other members. Family members are welcome so long as children are at least teenage – as their parent you will be responsible for them!
It could well be that you have a particular friend who likes what Rotary does but is not interested in becoming a member – this could be right for them.
So your commitment is about the 90minutes on a Sunday afternoon at approximately 4 week intervals. Once rostered for a date, if for some reason you can’t make it, it is your responsibility to arrange a swap with another member of the roster.
If you can assist please let me know by return email at bob.glindemann@bigpond.com or give me a call on 0418 102 702 and I can get you into the roster that I will be preparing shortly (numbers willing) to take us up to the end of June.
I hope to hear from you very soon.
