AFRI-AUS CARE RECEIVES RECOGNITION

Robert reported: "President Marion and I were in attendance, as was DG Philip Archer. Minister of State Natalie Hutchins announced a grant of $0.5M towards the Empowering African Mothers Project: Ubuntu in Practice.

Ubuntu means "I am because you are" or a person is a person through other people. This magnificent sponsorship will propel the organisation to a whole new level.

From my perspective, I am working on two fronts:

(1) arranging for the supply of reconditioned sewing machines, and having machines from their sewing class repaired and serviced with support from Peter Clements, who has done great work in this respect for Timor Leste, and

(2) raising top-up funds through the Welfare of the Young Committee (approvals processes underway) which will enable them to purchase a Minibus for the transportation of young people (who have been transformed through sport) to their basketball events, and for these folk to help distribute grown and donated food to the needy in the community (we helped by providing food and funds during the early stages of COVID last year, and it has become a continuing program)."

Dignitaries, including the Mayor of the City of Greater
Dandenong, Councillor Angela Long (note the three matching African dresses!), DG Philip Archer.

Guests on a tour of the amazing veggie garden with some community
members.
