I am also reliably informed, by Chris Wang, that we are entering the year of the OX. So, for anyone who was born in 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, this is your year. I’m assuming we don’t have any members born in 1997, and 2009, but if you are in this group we are delighted that you bring your technical and social media skills to our club and keep us young - thank you all for joining.
This year will be a Metal Ox year. The Ox is the second out of the twelve zodiac signs: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Apparently, this year is going to be lucky and we all look forward to that!
The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy ramping up towards all the Centenary celebrations. We are also doing everything we can to bring our club meetings back to face-to-face. If only these sudden lock-downs would stop thwarting us! Jo Mavros has come back from holiday with a renewed commitment to making our face to face meetings happen so watch this space.
I remain astonished at the energy and commitment of my VP’s and Board and that energy is now going into our Centenary celebrations along with those of District Governor, Philip Archer – truly amazing. Keep a watchful eye out for all that is coming up to celebrate – in person or online.
This energy, I’ve discovered, is replicated in our continuing member projects and engagements. Lockdown hasn’t thwarted any of their dynamism and this week I had the pleasure of joining Robert Fisher and Philip Archer as they supported The Hon. Minister Natalie Hutchins at the Springvale Community Centre celebrating the work of Afri-Aus Care. This is empowering African Australians in ways that overcome all the barriers and sharing ‘Ubuntu in Practice’. I thought I’d share a photo.
Mark Balla’s evening presentation: "The Journey to the Toilet: Getting girls to school” was a wonderful example of the grass roots impact of Rotary. Rotary is at its best when it connects the ‘community dots’ and puts in place simple programs like this, that have an exponential impact.
Next week is our Members’ Lunch and we hope to share with you our R100 projects and how they are progressing. It will be another interesting opportunity to share with our members the incredible work of our club and introduce some of the newer members.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Until next time – take care and spread kindness.
