They say that many hands make light work. Well, that is certainly the case with this project.
In October 2020, EndTrachoma started the project 2000 Toiletry Kits for 2000 Children the N.T.
Four months later, thanks to the kindness of 51 Clubs/Groups across Australia, we are extremely excited that all 2154 Toiletry Kits for 31 Schools in the NT – have all been allocated and are being made with love.
The Toiletry Kits contain:
Delivery of the Kits started in mid-January in time for the start of the new school year and were received by the N.T. Education Department. Under the guidance and support of Mardi Haselton who has been our contact in Alice Springs, Mardi provided us with the names of the schools that wanted their students to receive these Kits. Originally the numbers provided were 1000, however upon some research we realised that the numbers provided were attendance numbers and not the numbers enrolled. For the Toiletry Kits to have the desired effect of encouraging good hygiene, we needed to provide a kit for every child within the school. And 2000 soon became the challenge. We added to that list two schools as requested by two Rotary clubs who already had a connection.
The clubs decided on the number of Kits they would like to make and then we allocated a school to match, providing some interested facts about each school along with a map of the location in relation to Alice Springs. The idea is that the club/school will be in contact with the school in the N.T to replenish the usable items and for other unknown benefits.
Having this project well underway and with requests to be involved still coming in, we are in conversation with the Women’s Refuge and Hospital in Alice Springs and exploring schools in W.A for a similar project.
