The article ‘Beecause They Need Us’ (attached here Beecause_article_Aug_21_comp.pdf) highlights the threat a declining bee population poses to the global food security system. It is a message that Rotary Melbourne’s Environmental Sustainability Committee is very much aware of and we have established a small Urban Greening Project team whose main focus is to work on projects that encourage the creation of native pollinator friendly flowering plants along city streets as well as on larger patches of unused land within urban Melbourne.
Our committee is currently looking at participating in a large scale bee pollinator project with a number of other Rotary Clubs in the local area that we have all been introduced to. Should Club members wish to know more on this please contact Peter Berg at pberg8@bigpond.net.au
