Our evening meeting on Wednesday 11 August drew a lot of interest from a diverse audience including writers who learned of the event from publicity through the Writers’ Guild. The meeting was a great success with more than 80 members and visitors in attendance
We were intrigued to learn of the shear commitment and resilience needed to build a career in TV writing.
Jo Murphy warmly communicated his passion for television drama and gave us insights into how the US TV production industry works.
He talked of the challenges facing cinema, the differences between content written for free to air and cable networks that depend heavily on advertising and highlighted the rapid emergence to “streaming platforms” such as Netflix as dominant delivery channels for television drama. Jo also shared interesting insights the influence of social trends on how media content is shaped and how script writing rooms operate.
The link for the recording of this meeting will be provided shortly on the website. Feel free to take a look at the recording your self and to pass it on to interested friends and relatives. It is a “must see” for anyone aspiring to work in TV writing.
