Reflection - PP Robert Fisher 18 Aug

“We in Rotary Melbourne know that we have a lot more work to do in diversity, equity and inclusion. As a starting – or continuing – point, we would do well to read and digest the piece in this week’s Bulletin, put out by Rotary International, whose Board of Directors has taken measures to strengthen our commitment as an organisation to these areas.

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a culture based on these principles is essential if we are to realise our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change. We should value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people from all backgrounds, as well as people who express differences in ideas, thoughts and beliefs.

It is incumbent on all of us as Rotarians to do more than pay lip service to the sentiments that are expressed in the RI commitment, but rather to put them into practice in our every day lives and in our Rotary service. I commend the article to you.

The author Catherine Pulsifer once said “We are all different, which is great because we are all unique. Without diversity, life would be very boring.” How true!

For friendships in Rotary, and the opportunity to serve, we give thanks…. Robert Fisher”
