Our extraordinary students
As I write this, I am full of admiration for our students. Our NT-based Year 7 and alumni students are currently quarantining in Howard Springs, accompanied by MITS school and boarding staff. For some students, it is their fourth time in Howard Springs: an incredible display of their commitment to education.
The NT students are completing the final two weeks of Term 3 from Howard Springs, before heading home to their families for a well-earned break. Our Victorian students have all safely returned home to their regional communities, laptops in hand, where they too will continue with their studies with daily in-person support from MITS staff.
As we know, 2021 has continued to present challenges and frustrations for us all. Our students have not been able to enjoy the true MITS experience: playing footy at Richmond Junior, school camp, trips to the snow, cheering the mighty Tigers at the MCG and so much more.
But when so much of the MITS experience is not possible, we see with great clarity that the pursuit of a great education sits at the heart of our students’ choice to come to Melbourne. This year we have seen exceptionally strong academic growth from our students, testament to their strength and resilience.
Our 2021 MITS Gala Dinner
Another highlight of the MITS year for our students is the Gala Dinner, held each year in October. We are so disappointed that current restrictions will prevent this year's Gala from happening in person.
We want to ensure that our wonderful community remains connected to MITS and to our students. Critically, we must also continue to raise the essential funds this dinner brings, so we can provide greater opportunities to more students. As in 2020, we are excited to offer a Gala-at-Home so that we can continue the spirit of the MITS Gala Dinner.
