Reflection by Dr Suresh Marcandan 29 September

ACHIEVING INNER TRANSFORMATION
A young village boy once asked the famous Indian guru Swami
Vivekananda how he could achieve inner transformation, to which the
sage replied as follows:
• If a drop of rain is caught by clean hands, it is pure enough to drink;
• If it falls in a sewer it’s value drops so much that it becomes useless
even to wash your hands;
• If it falls on a hot surface, it will evaporate;
• If it falls on a lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl; and
• If it falls on an oyster, it becomes a pearl.
The drop is the same but its existence and value depends very much on
who it is associated with. That, he explained is the ‘power of association’
and the route to ‘inner transformation’.
So let us reflect on this wisdom and ask ourselves the question - Are we
attracting into Rotary people who, in everything they think, say or do, ask
themselves the question?
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? and
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
For good food, good fellowship and the opportunity to serve - we give
thanks
