“True leaders prove fear is cheap and hope is worth sweating for”
Our congratulations go to Emily and everyone involved in UsherKids.
In past months we have reflected on leadership to see that fear assaults and hope embraces.
Fear shrinks our world, while hope enlarges it. I think Sir John Reid would certainly approve of those words. Politically speaking, fear is about gaining and holding control, while hope is the language of freedom.
Today especially, we recognise that leadership takes many different forms across the spectrum. As we think of those who lead businesses, senior staff personnel, teams, families and those who accept community leadership.
Today as we begin to emerge out of lockdown and as we begin to move, sprinting, walking, dancing or limping out of this pandemic, let’s remember while we are at it there is one more thing. Fear may still seem powerful in the moment, but it has a limited shelf life and as far as leadership is concerned, it can be a cheap commodity.
Hope is not denial, while optimism is not bland lip service. So we must acknowledge being preoccupied with things but chose to believe in the good and when we see it act in the service of all.
These thoughts come from Gemma Tognini, Executive Director GT communications.
Above all today we are reminded of our Rotary motto, service above self.
