Good afternoon Rotarians and Guests,

I heard the question asked “Are Australians rich?  Then I thought of Gina Rinehart and answered, “I am not rich”.

Then a series of questions followed

• Do you have comfortable accommodation?
• Is water available in your home?
• Do you have a good diet?
• What about transport – a car?
• Good hospitals and medical attention?
• A television set at home?
• Good schooling for your children?

Of course, the answer is “yes” for most Australians so compared with poor African and Middle Eastern countries who have conflicts galore. Indeed, every one of us Australians is rich indeed.

In a medical book called “Timeless Healing” by Herbert Benson, MD it is stated “people who help other people consistently report better health than peers in their age group.” What a great message for us Rotarians!

So today we give thanks for good food and our friendly fellowship together.
