When Selba Gondola-Luka CEO of Afri-Aus Care spoke at Rotary Melbourne on 7 July we learned about the superb support that her organisation is giving needy individuals in the recently arrived African Community in and around Dandenong.
Afri-Aus Care is providing much needed support to men and women among recently arrive African communities applying the African philosophy of UBUNTU:
"I am because we are".
By using The Positive Change Model, Afri-Aus Care brings grass-root community members together to strengthen each other in our society and making Australia a better place for everyone.
Rotary Melbourne support has been led by past President Robert Fisher whose team has mentored young African men on getting the most out of work.
With the help of Peter Clements, champion of the Timor Leste Sewing Machine project, Robert is pictured below on 25-January presenting 5 reconditioned sewing machines with supplies of thread and buttons to Afri-Aus Care where they are setting aside a dedicated sewing room at their HQ for the women of their community. Those present were take on a guided tour of Ari-Aus Care's flourishing and impressive African veggie garden. [see picture]
This project exemplifies Rotarians as people of action, serving to change lives.
