MITS 2021 Graduation

MITS (Melbourne Indigenous Transition School) held its 2021 Graduation Dinner prior to Christmas at the MCG where all 19 Graduates of Class 2021 were recognised for their achievements during what was a challenging year.

In his address, Executive Director, Ed Tudor said “As it turned out, 2021 was even more unforgettable than any of us could have imagined. After our Darwin hub last year, our Class of 2021 broke new ground as MITS students: living in Melbourne through four lockdowns, being part of the Richmond Football Clubs COVID bubble, and incredibly, becoming the only students in Australia to attend a pop-up-school inside Howard Springs.

In addressing the Graduating Class, Ed said “By accepting a position at MITS, you committed to taking on immense and exciting challenges, living away from home, family and country, forming new friendships and relationships, pushing yourselves inside and outside of the classroom, and immersing yourselves in the many wonderful experiences and opportunities of Melbourne.  Perhaps more than any other year, in 2021 you have lived and breathed that essential value: courage.  Through your courage, you have remained committed to your education and we have seen you grow immensely both academically and personally.  The courage you have displayed this year will continue to be important as you pursue your dreams in your Partner Schools – never let go of it.””

Rotary Melbourne was represented by Past President Kevin Sheehan and our new member, John Saunders and his wife Kate who works as a volunteer at MITS.  It is interesting to note that the Melbourne Cricket Club have through its Foundation, come onboard as a supporter of MITS and hence hosted the venue in the Olympic Room with the MCG Scoreboards and around the ground signage carrying congratulations to the Graduating Class.

In all, it was an outstanding occasion.
