The Rotary Club of Melbourne began working with District 9800 in early 2020 to assist folks impacted by the 2019/20 bushfires. One aspect of this work has been providing shipping containers to help individuals, service organisations and businesses who had storage facilities destroyed in the fires. The photos below show two of the most recent Rotary provided containers installed at Sarsfield Flowers just outside of Bairnsdale. While the bushfires are now almost two years ago and a lot of work has been achieved in places like East Gippsland, Covid, inclement weather, delays with insurance claims and issues obtaining permits for new buildings mean that there is still plenty of work to be done.
We have been working closely with local Rotary clubs who are playing a big role in helping communities recover and rebuild. If anyone is in the Bairnsdale / Lakes Entrance area it is worth trying to schedule a meeting with some of the local clubs to find out more about the work they have been doing.
