The Health and Ageing Committee reports that the pilot project to support the administration of the community Covid activities has been completed. St John Ambulance sought volunteers to screen visitors to medical facilities and a number of Members were prepared to join the program. The pilot involved two shifts at Werribee Mercy Hospital to ensure public visitors were eligible and safe to enter. Rotary Melbourne volunteers agreed to have St John transfer their fees to the Club for various other humanitarian projects.
The actual screening work was found to be effective and supported the medical personnel as planned. However the donation of fees for shifts to Rotary Melbourne has proven to be very difficult for St John Ambulance systems and procedures. Hence we are transitioning the project to a direct salary payment to volunteers for hours worked. It will then be up to each volunteer to decide what to do with their payments. Members who are willing to join the modified project should contact Trevor Nink on tnink@outlook.com.
