Reflection by Philip Cornish 23 March 22

Peace

When I was a youngster I remember asking my father “when did modern history begin?” I was astonished when he told me the Battle of Waterloo. I knew he was wrong.

It feels like something significant is happening in the world at the moment. If this time becomes the beginning of modern history we need peacemakers.

I was reminded about Rotary’s contribution to building peace when I listened to an online talk by an American, in part about Ukraine, who started in Russian.

Why, because he had been a rotary exchange student to Russia at school. It taught him not to see an enemy.  I note we have a peace fellow here today. I give thanks for Rotary’s many contributions to peace and building a better world.
