The war in Ukraine fills us with a sense of pessimism about the future of not only Ukrainians, but for the whole world. I am also mindful of when the British came here from 1788 onwards, the aborigines would have felt exactly the same way.
Our task as Rotarians is to help others as much as we can, and it is my hope that aboriginal people are being properly integrated into our society along with all those from other countries who have immigrated to our green and pleasant land. We'll learn from today's speaker how aborigines are treated in the AFL.
The old biblical injunction to "love your neighbour as yourself" is still a very good motto for each one of us. Rotary epitomises this with the wonderful programs we have in place to help needy people in our world communities and, of course, we give thanks today for good food and our friendly fellowship with each other.
