President Reg acknowledged a significant Membership anniversary - Ted Garland 39 years.
Ted Garland, joined the Club on this day in 1983.
Ted was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1998 for his career work in mining, petroleum exploration and aerospace technology combined with his outstanding work as a Rotarian in the International Service Committee both in the Club and in the District, his work for Youth Homelessness, his organising of the Youth Hub for the 1993 Convention and his service as a Director from 1990 to 1992 and as Vice-President of our Club in 1996-97.
It would have been understandable if Ted had eased up after this sustained activity - but no!
In 1999-2000 he organised the Youth Expo at the Exhibition Building and in the same year he became Honorary Treasurer - a position he filled for the next five years!
One of the Presidents he served said of him, in the words of the induction charge - “we believe our principles and organisation will be safe in your keeping, might have been written for a hawk-eyed Treasurer”.
Another of his Presidents said – “Treasurer, Ted made sure the bottom line was healthy”
Whilst a third more plaintively expressed his appreciation in the words - “Ted kept us all under tight financial control”
In 2005 Ted was further recognised by the Club with a Sapphire PHF for his services in overhauling and aligning the Club’s accounts to the Tax Act. In the broad sense these changes embraced the full computerisation of the Club’s accounting systems and a comprehensive revision of the structuring of the Club’s accounting systems and records.
Ted remains committed to the Club, and, is a mainstay of his Group, Lunch setup crew and the Welfare of the Young committee where he together with Maree package gifted showbags for Asylum Seeker children each year for their RCM funded trip to the ZOO.
Today I have pleasure in highlighting, acknowledging and thanking Ted for his 39 years of outstanding Rotary service.
Please join me in thanking Ted. Watch the meeting video on YouTube to view Ted's response.
