Last week's evening meeting 11 May 2022

First Hybrid Evening Meeting 11 May 2022

Our events team delivered another outstanding Evening Meeting at the Lyceum Club on Wednesday 11 May.  Guest speaker was Clare Moore - the winner of Rotary Melbourne’s first Environmental Sustainability Award in 2021.

Clare is now well advanced with expanding training of Beekeeper into both the juvenile and adult justice detention systems.  With support from Past Rotary Melbourne President, Quin Scalzo, Clare’s social venture “Sweet Justice” is near completing plans to create a honey production and distribution operation that will provide sustainable employment for ex-offenders who have received training whilst still in prison.

Clare noted the powerful impact of creating a vocational option for prisoners to pursue on their return to life outside prison.  The risk of re-offending drops dramatically if ex-offenders can be engaged in interesting and engaging work in their fist year of freedom.

Members were able to enjoy fellowship over a drink and nibble at the Lyceum Club, whilst those that couldn’t attend in person were able to participate on Zoom.  The recording of the meeting can be viewed on Rotary Melbourne’s YouTube Channel by clicking this link: https://youtu.be/TrHl65PxbAw
