Have you room in your heart and home for a foster child?
Susan Barton AM, Founder of Lighthouse Foundation and one of our longstanding Melbourne Rotarians, is urgently seeking good-hearted members of the Rotary community to step forward as potential foster carers. There is a crisis in the Foster Care sector currently, with thousands of children who cannot live with their parents for a variety of reasons, receiving less-than-ideal care in temporary, emergency foster care placements.
These children range in age from birth to 16 years of age and have often felt the pain of early trauma, and unsettling frequent placement shifts. Susan would like Rotarians to know that Foster Carers can be of any age range, and can be matched to a child of a suitable age.
Foster carers are not always couples with their own children. They can also be single, widowed, LGBTIQ+, and live in a range of locations. People from all walks of life are invited to apply.
School aged children are ideally placed in a home where they can remain connected to their current school, although this is not always possible.
Susan would like the word spread across the families and friends connected to Rotarians, and she invites those interested email her at susanb@lighthousefoundation.org.au. If not us … if not now … then who …
