Welcome New Member - Saptarshi De (Sap)

Saptarshi De (Sap) was inducted on 29th June 2022 with the classification ‘Business – Project Management.’

Sap was born in India and has grown up in the UK and NZ before settling in Melbourne when he was 16. He graduated from Melbourne High after attending 3 previous high schools in: Camberwell High, Wellington College and Auckland Grammar and attended the University of Melbourne with the aim of acquiring a degree in Engineering. He left the course early to pursue a different stream of work and is currently completing his Executive Master of Business Administration at RMIT University.

Considering himself to be an adaptable collection of tools and techniques, Sap has 8+ years’ experience in delivering high-value end-to-end projects in transport, aviation, manufacturing, mining, product-development, continuous improvement, and business transformation. Sap is currently a Project Manager at MTData, a Telstra Company, delivering projects to some of the largest transport and fleet companies in Australia. He has previously worked for Jetstar and BHP to name a few.

Sap is well travelled and has been lucky to travel all over the world bar four major regions: Antarctica; Central Africa; Siberian Russia and the Stans; and Peru (Western South America). His motto has always been “to see the world once and then to experience it a second time”. He enjoys the people, the scenery, the food and culture and believes it has shaped him to be the person he is today. He has previously volunteered in youth mentoring programs as well as raising funds to support mental health causes. Rotary, being an international organisation, was a key motivation for him to join.

Aside from travel, Sap has a deep passion for all sports and has a bucket list to travel to all major events around the world. As an avid Collingwood Supporter, his heart is still recovering from being in row A at the MCG watching Dom Sheed kick the winner in front of him at the 2018 Grand Final. Sap also loves his cars, whisky, watches and photography.

Sap is happy to spend hours talking to anyone about anything. He is excited to begin the Rotary journey and is looking forward to spending time with all the committees and getting to know the Rotary Club of Melbourne over the next few months. Please extend him an invite with when your committee is meeting. Please contact Sap via the Rotary Melbourne members directory. Sap will serve on the evening committee and the new sports committee.
