This Arts Committee initiated event was well attended by 30 Rotary Melbourne Members and friends on Friday 22 July. We were given an outstanding overview of the Exhibition by a gallery volunteer who provided expert insight on Picasso’s connectedness to prominent artists from Spain and France in particular, and the shifting tastes and influences of the 20th century. Known for his brilliance and leadership in Cubism as an early-20th-century avant-garde art movement that revolutionised European painting and sculpture.
Drawn from Centre Pompidou and the Musée national Picasso-Paris, as well as the NGV Collection, the exhibition features over 80 works by Picasso alongside over 100 works by more than 50 of his contemporaries, many rarely seen in Australian galleries.
