Last Week's Meeting Wednesday 20 July 22 - Mark Melvin

A meeting of great interest to Rotary Melbourne Members, in which CEO of the Committee for Melbourne, Mark Melvin addressed us on the impact of the pandemic and the challenges for Melbourne going forward.

Having been in his role for just 3 months Mark contrasted Melbourne’s rapid development with that of Belfast which was founded in 664AD and has grown to a population of just 639,000, compared with Melbourne’s 5.15 million.  He took us through informative benchmarking of Melbourne’s comparative performance with 20 peer cities, highlighting Melbourne’s strengths in liability and urban optimisation, with big opportunities to strengthen the cities performance in the future economy, particularly leading edge innovation, and infrastructure and sustainability.

Mark gave us good humoured insights into the dilemmas facing planners of the greater Melbourne area.  His presentation is available for viewing by following this link: https://youtu.be/C_HBHAgP7Yg

Past President Robert Fisher provided the reflection highlighting with a new video the impact of the Rotary Give Every Child a Future Pacific Island vaccination program - view that video here.  Also in this link you will see the recording of President Adrian’s notices, which due to work commitments, he had to deliver on-line.
