If I mention Wilderness Wear I suspect you all know the Phil Im referring to.
Dear Phil, On Monday I visited the Alfred and delivered the first of your beautiful socks – 75% pure Aussie merino wool is extra special, and your pledge to provide 200 a month quite incredible.
A staff member shared a story of a woman who arrived in the unit so bereft and denuded with her emotional reserves on empty. She had suffered a tragic loss of a loved one. On arrival in the unit the staff provided her a cosy, warm pair of socks. Such was her grief and emptiness it was what was perfect for her to find comfort from. A gorgeous warm pair of socks.
We continue providing clothing, care bags and your beautiful socks knowing that they are very important. This care is extending to psychiatric wards at The Alfred, Box Hill and Forensicare Hospitals.
We are all aware that staff in the hospital system are under extreme pressure. In the mental health sector providing empathetic services is especially difficult wearing PPE. Staff furloughs and attrition rates are awful. Through donations such as Phil’s we have been able to provide gratitude bags to the staff. Last week 40 beautiful bags with pamper products including “Wilderness Wear” socks were provided to the allied health team at The Alfred Mental Health Unit. Annie commented “Feet are being kept warm and snug on these cold days, from staff care bags. A little hug for my toes goes a long way 🥰” .
with huge thanks
