PP Peter Dakin 34 Years Membership - An exemplary Rotarian

PP Peter Dakin was inducted on 5 October 34 years ago under the classification - Personnel Consulting.  At that time John Urbahns was the Club president and Royce Abbey our Rotary International President.  His sponsor was John Vial.

Peter was Managing Director of Dakin Management Group PL. operating from his Albert Park address and specialising in Executive recruitment and Management.  As he does today.

The guest speaker on that day was Senator Jim Short – speaking on “A Liberal View of the Future”

Peter was born in in Ivanhoe and educated at Wesley College.  He is married to Di and they have two children daughter Victoria who has 2 girls 16 & 12 and son Alex who has 3 boys 8, 6 and 3. Peter’s brother, Ian Dakin, was also a 30 year member of RCM resigning after moving to the Bellarine.

Peter is a keen sportsman and has been an active member of Lord Somers Camp and Power House for many years and a member of MCC, VRC Kooyong & Kingston Heath taking leadership roles.

Peter was our new millennium President 2000-2001.  In that year Owen Parnaby’s book on the history of the Club was completed and the Club celebrated 80 years at Queens Hall Parliament House with 400 Rotarians and guests present.

Not surprisingly Peter served as our Vocational Service Director 1992-94.

In 1994 Peter was recognised as a PHF under President Gerry Johnston for his work with JOFA, a self help employment group for unemployed middle management people hit by the recession. Under

Membership and friendship is at the forefront of Peter’s actions and he has strongly supported membership activities, hosting many new member nights at his impressive Rialto office and remains a member of the Membership Engagement Committee.

Peter currently serves as Club Almoner, calling and checking on members with a sensitive approach and maintaining close liaison and annually organises the Past President’s catchup at Kingston Heath.

This year Peter has been invaluable in supporting the program team with his keen eye and feel for potential speakers of which I am grateful.

Peter you were inducted in the year where the theme was “Put life into Rotary – Your Life.” And you have certainly done just that.

Congratulations on your 34 years of membership.
