We’ve made great progress on planning our 2nd World Environment Day Celebration event.
Our speaker panel for the event now has 5 recognised contributors to environmental sustainability. We are delighted that recognised expert on the sustainability of the built environment and the circular economy, RMIT Professor Usha Iyer-Raniga last week advised that she is available to join the panel discussion.
In highlighting innovative Environment initiatives in the Circular economy across Victoria, we have a great opportunity to showcase Rotary’s own work and we are pleased that Bob Glindemann will be there, reflecting Rotary's long-standing commitment to Donations in Kind in Melbourne and elsewhere in Australia. DIK demonstrates that protecting the environment and circular economy practices were in the DNA of Rotarians long before the environment became our 7th area of focus.
Adding to this Honorary Member and Lord Mayor, Sally Capp is leading the City of Melbourne team multiple sustainability initiatives including The Green Line which will transform the North Bank of the Yarra River into Melbourne’s premier environmental sustainability destination.
After 20 years working across corporate and public sectors, most recently as CEO of the The Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group, Moderator, Jill Riseley has joined Deloitte’s as Sustainability Partner. She has completed the Masters Degree in Sustainability Leadership at Cambridge, and studied the Circular Economy at the University of Exeter Business School.
We’re also pleased to highlight the perspective of first nations people whose 60,000 years as custodians of this fragile land provides an amazing storehouse of wisdom. Indigenous architect Rueben Berg will bring that to us.
The Panel will provide valuable insights into the workings of the circular economy and the benefits that accompany it for both the environment and continuing economic growth.
This is a must-attend event which is highly relevant to the future well-being of our planet. Join us on the day and you’ll enjoy a great environmentally sustainable meal prepared by the Sofitel Chefs with help from Melbourne Restauranteur Adam D’Sylva. He’ll be there to tell us about the sustainable menu for the event.
Why not invest in a table for yourself, for work colleagues, your family or friends. Perhaps consider providing financial support to enable school students to attend the event. The list of interested schools is growing.
Lets all get behind this event which we plan to make an annual and iconic celebration of achievements in Melbourne and more widely across Victoria.
