Reflection by Robert Fisher 22 November 23

Rotary Melbourne is extremely fortunate in being able to work collaboratively with the City of Melbourne on a number of fronts.

Over the years this has been evidenced through the Sister City program (particularly with Osaka), the Young Leaders Exchange Program (which is being repeated in 2025) and the International Student Work Support Program during COVID. Also, the Council generously supported both the recent FORaMEAL initiative at Federation Square and the installation of the Peace Bells at Rotary Park.

Melbourne shares some of our areas of focus, such as the environment; mental health; food security; the arts; diversity, equity and inclusion. And nothing could exemplify the strength of Rotary’s relationship with the City of Melbourne more than the personal efforts of our Lord Mayor and guest speaker today – Sally Capp – in bringing last year’s International Convention to our great City. What a memorable week it was!

We need to keep striving to identify further areas of mutual co-operation that will potentially improve the lives of our fellow citizens in ‘glorious Melbourne’.

So, for good food and friendships through Rotary, we give thanks.

Past President Robert Fisher
