President Chris announced at the Meeting on 10 April 24 of the death of Dr Joe Tucci, from the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF), of which the Rotary Melbourne has a close association.
Joe was internationally recognised as a thought leader in the welfare of children, resulting from his extensive research and significant experience in child protection and working therapeutically with children. He was CEO for 28 years and was instrumental in working with the Federal Government to create the National Centre for Action on Childhood Sexual Abuse. The National Centre was created from the 2017 Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Dr Joe received the 2019 Vocational Services Award from the Club, but the relationship stems back much further than just this. The ACF was founded back in 1986 by the Club, and has had a long connection to Rotary, especially through ongoing Board membership – through Nick Pelham for the last 12 years, and before that, with Ted Garland as a Director and Treasurer.
