The Arts Committee is thrilled to promote young Melbourne composer May Lyon’s new one-act opera, Pieces of Margery, premiering on 15 June 2024. May is an emerging talent whose orchestral compositions are already performed by the MSO.
Commissioned by More Than Opera* to produce a work focusing on an important social challenge, May has delivered a compelling sung story about a major health issue. Dementia is all too familiar to us and many families. May brings understanding, compassion and empathy to this work. This is a love story with a difference. The power of opera unlocks hidden strengths in a relationship beset by the onset of dementia.
