Rotary Melbourne welcomed and inducted Dr Sarah Gosper on 5 February 2025 with the classification Universities – Global Education.
Sarah is an early-career academic with interests in China, gender studies, and international development. Sarah attended the Australian National University for her undergraduate degree and spent two years studying Mandarin at Nanjing Normal University, in China. After moving to Melbourne, Sarah obtained a Masters in Gender and Development Studies, and Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Melbourne. Sarah’s doctoral research examined rural masculinity in urban China, within the context of late marriage and bachelorhood.
Sarah spent several years working in the gender-based violence space in the international development sector and since 2022 has been the Deputy Director of the Global Immersion Guarantee Program at Monash University. In this role, Sarah works closely with a diverse set of stakeholders in the Pacific who are committed to climate action and social impact. Sarah looks forward to collaborating with Rotary to support these partnerships in their efforts to address key sustainable development challenges, as well as seeking out opportunities for Monash students to build meaningful connections with the Rotary community.
Sarah is a keen runner and an avid tennis fan. She is a member of the Asian Studies Association of Australia, and a member of the Kew - North Balwyn Group.
