President's Update 18 March 2026

The Rotary Melbourne Board met again on Wednesday 18 March 26. We are working further on the Strategic Plan. We'd like to keep it down to 4 pages in the Directory, which is where we think members are most likely to read it, if at all. Brevity is even more of a virtus in modern communications.

It was agreed that we need to better tell members about why we are developing the "PBI" (Public Benevolent Institution) and the PBI's potential benefits. There is a danger that it becomes one of those acronyms without meaning outside a small circle. In short, it should allow us to work with larger funds, raise more money for our projects and continue to allow an avenue for Tax deductible benefits to our members.
Our new templates for Committee Chairs and Directors to input possible expenditure for the next financial year are being redrafted to allow people more easily to read and use.

The Board is also encouraging members to consider nominating to be local community leaders for a group of local Rotary clubs (Rotary South Pacific). An international network of Rotary and Rotaract Clubs and members across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, formerly Zone 8. PP Peter Rogers (Fundraising, Partnerships and Grant Directors) and David Carruthers (Treasurer) are currently serving on the Council.

All the best and have a peaceful week.
Philip
