The East African Women’s Foundation invited Peter Berg and Tony and Amanda Battaini to Harmony Through Eid 2026 on Sunday 22 March, at the North Cyprus Turkish Community Centre in Albion.
This Cultural Diversity Week celebration brought together families, community leaders and local organisations to mark the end of Ramadan and celebrate inclusion, culture and community connection.
Our 2025-26 Sir John Reid Community Service Award recipient, Fartun Farah, hosted the day of celebration. Guests included Federal and State MPs and Local Councillors. Dorothy Gilmour, Chair of Rotary SAFE Families was a guest of honour, recognised for her ongoing contribution to the East African community.
Fartun called out Rotary Melbourne for its donation to EAWF, which has already facilitated education sessions for young girls and their mothers on sensitive issues of female health, and the importance of respecting the rights of girls to say no to certain cultural practices.

It was a happy, fun and family occasion, with performances from children, fascinating cultural displays and live music. We shared a meal and great conversation with Fartun and her many supporters and friends in the East African community.
