Karen Kim was inducted on 223 November 2022 with the classification ‘Music Education.’
Karen Kim was inducted on Wednesday 23rd November 2022 to Rotary Melbourne , with the classification of Music Education and will be a member of the Toorak 1 Group.
Karen was born in Pusan, South Korea and arrived in Melbourne as one of the first Korean immigrants in 1971. Karen attended Lowther Hall AGS on full scholarship and studied at University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium, majoring in piano, violin performance and psychology.
She founded Hello Music in 1990 whilst still at university, a music education and events company which she still manages, and over the years has also managed various other businesses in media, edutainment and social impact including the Inspirational Women TV (Foxtel/C31) , Licks5D (global touring cinema entertainment) and Pounce Global (NFP).
She is currently developing a music education and events app, with a social impact focus, for the global community and is part of the MAP (Melbourne Uni accelerator programme) with this project.
Karen serves as president of the Korean Women’s International Network, a South Korean initiative founded by the Ministry for Gender Equality and Family to support working Korean women across the globe, and has served on boards/committees including the International Women’s Federation of Commerce and Industry, Korean Society of Victoria and the Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network. She also recently ran as a Senate candidate in the 2022 Federal election.
Karen’s main interests lie in leading projects with purpose and sustainability for youth and women, promoting music education, social business opportunities and facilitating intercultural exchange.
Karen has 3 internationally dispersed sons and is married to a Dutchman
