DG Amanda Wendt has notified Rotarians that 'in our District many Rotarians have been affected by recent rainfalls, many local members are pitching in and making a hands-on difference'.
Particular mention goes to the Rotary clubs of Bendigo, Bendigo Sandhurst, Bendigo South, Castlemaine, Eaglehawk, Echuca Moama, Kangaroo Flat and Rochester, as well as District Assistant Governor Alison Bacon, who continue to provide support to local residents and emergency management teams. Through Alison, DGN Michael Lapiña (our disaster event coordinator), DGE Ron Payne and myself, District 9800 has been in ongoing contact with members, clubs and agencies.
You can help too.
On-the-ground Rotarians have asked for support in three ways:
1) Donate funds to Goldfields North and Goldfields South cluster clubs to locally purchase necessary personal and clean up items via Eaglehawk Rotary club at:
Name: The Rotary Club of Eaglehawk – Project Account
BSB: 633000
Account number: 131 067 670
It would be greatly appreciated if clubs could reference any contributions with
'RC (club name) - Floods'
And, of course, reach out to your co-members, friends and family to see how they’re travelling.
As strong as the instinct is to help in person – and the offers have unsurprisingly come thick and fast – Rotary’s role is in recovery support. Our local clubs have been working under the direction of a co-ordinated response led by the emergency services. Areas such as Rochester, Echuca Moama and Shepparton are still considered emergency areas.
Thanks for supporting affected communities and their local Rotarians in these ways. It’s how we can best leverage our network to make a difference.
Take care and stay in touch.
Amanda Wendt
District Governor
(on behalf of D9800 Governor team)
