As of yesterday, I have surpassed 200km of my month’s 300km target. And it’s a tribute to the generosity of 27 Rotarians, plus friends and family, that my ‘Rotary Walk With Us’ revised target of $7,500 has now been exceeded. Overall, our Rotary District has raised some $30,000 so far, which will become $90,000 thanks to the 2:1 matching of the Gates Foundation.
People ask me why we should continue with the campaign when we are over 99% Polio-free globally. My answer is best expressed by borrowing someone else’s quote: “A Polio-free world is within our grasp. One day, Polio will be just a memory, but until then we keep vaccinating”.
Robert Fisher.
There will be other events during the month, all designed to raise funds for this worthy Rotary cause. Please remember: every contribution attracts double the amount from the Gates Foundation, so $1 becomes $3! Robert Fisher has a web page that makes it easy to give a tax deductible donation: https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/fundraisers/robertfisher

Robert Fisher is challenging himself to walk 10km per day during the month of October 25 to raise $5,000+ vital funds that will help eradicate and prepare us for a Polio free world.
Poliomyelitis is a disease that should have been made history a long time ago, yet it runs the risk of becoming forgotten about. Polio is crippling and potentially fatal. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate Polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is Polio free
However, a Polio free world does not mean it’s over altogether. It requires updated vaccination policies, appropriate containment of the Polio virus in facilities, and the certification that Polio has indeed been eradicated.
That is why this October we are asking you to support the 'Rotary Walk With Us' campaign by donating so that no child ever again suffers from the devastating effects of Polio. Every $1 that we raise becomes $3 thanks to the generosity of the Gates Foundation.
