Today we offer thanks in anticipation of Anzac Day on Saturday.
Given the present concerns of all that has been happening in war in the Middle East and nearby, this makes it a special remembrance of the past and present dangers in our world.
Anzac day, observed on 25 April, marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 under Sir John Monash. It is a day to honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) who served faithfully in that campaign and in wars ever since. It is a time to reflect on the values of mateship, bravery, and service that define our nation. It is a day to recognise not only those who fought but also those who continue to serve in our defence forces.
As we gather here today, where our second President was Sir John Monash, let us remember their sacrifices with gratitude and ensure their legacy lives on through our commitment to unity, peace, and respect and for those currently fighting in wars.
For good fun, good food, good fellowship and the privilege of serving others through Rotary, we give thanks.
The Rt Revd the Hon Dr Peter Hollingworth AC OBE
