Thomas Baker Oration 2026

On Wednesday May 13th 2026 we will once again be celebrating the life of our esteemed 8th President, Thomas Baker, in the 10th year at the Oration in his name. Each year we seek an orator that embodies leadership in medicine, science, technology, entrepreneurial or philanthropy.

Previous orators include Dr Alan Finkel AO, Australia’s Chief Scientist, Ziggy Switkowski AO, Chancellor of RMIT University, Prof Fiona Wood AM, Australian of the Year 2005, 2021 Prof Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria and last year Dr Megan Clark AC, Chancellor of Monash University.

This year we are honoured by Professor John Greenwood, Director of Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, as our orator in the centenary year of the Institute's formation. Thomas Baker was instrumental in establishing the organisation which has become the Baker HDI.

Professor Greenwood's oration is titled "Mending a 'broken heart'". As a world leading heart researcher, Professor Greenwood is ideally positioned to provide an innovative and insightful oration.

We would love to see you all there joining our city’s foundation chairs and brightest scientists and researchers!
