Reflection Tony Battaini 19 August 2026

Good afternoon, fellow Rotarians and friends.

Well-built and properly maintained roads are essential for safe and expeditious travel.

And an enjoyable road trip needs a good play list. There are 100’s of songs with “road” in the title.

For a road trip in Victoria the playlist must include the Beach Boys’ Long Promised Road, the Bee Gees’ We Lost the Road and Brazen Abbot’s

The Road to Hell. Do our roads have to be like this?

If Rotary built a road, how would it go about it?

1. Rotary Road would lead to a necessary destination, the Object of Rotary
2. Rotary Road will build its pavement on sound foundations, The Four Way Test.
3. Rotary Road will use planned maintenance to minimise risk and harm, End Polio Now.
4. Rotary Road will anticipate the need for and pre-fund repairs, the Rotary Foundation.

What’s the first song on my Rotary Road playlist? John Denver’s Take Me Home Country Roads.

For good food, good fellowship and the opportunity to serve, we give thanks.
