Rotary Obituary - Rodney George Adrian Smith

The following was read out by President carol before the start of the meeting on Wednesday 23 September 26. A moment of silence was observed.
Rotary Melbourne Members mourn the passing of our dear friend and fellow Rotarian, Rodney Smith, a member of our Club for 42 years, a Paul Harris Fellow and an important and valued member of Rotary Melbourne.
Rodney was a man with a big heart and a deep commitment to community service. Throughout his Rotary membership, he served on and chaired many committees, including Vocational Service, Inter Club Visits and Welfare of the Young.
But it was Youth Exchange where Rodney made a particularly lasting contribution.
Rodney served for eight years on the District Youth Exchange Committee, including as Chairman in 1993/94, and in 1996/97 was appointed Executive Trustee of the District Youth Exchange Trust Fund.
Together with his beloved wife Edna, Rodney helped facilitate countless international exchanges for young people. Through their commitment, they helped create opportunities for young people to experience different cultures, build friendships across borders and develop greater understanding — contributing to Rotary’s goal of peace and understanding in the world.
Rodney’s service touched many young lives and leaves a lasting legacy within Rotary.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his children Hilary, Clive and Julian, his sister Elizabeth, their families, and all who loved him.
Rest in peace, Rodney. Your work is done.
