Sumi Jo Masterclass in Melbourne

Next >

Rotary Melbourne Arts Committee chair, Maestro Dr David Kram AM was accompanist at a brilliant masterclass conducted by Internationally renowned South Korean soprano Sumi Jo. Karen Kim was the Event Director and Tony Battaini’s More Than Opera sponsored three of the participants – baritone Hartley Trusler and lyric tenors Joshua Erdelyi-Götz and Nicholas Matters.

Other singers were lyric soprano Teresa Ingrilli, mezzo-soprano Helen Sun, coloratura soprano Eunchong Kim, soprano Madeleine Stephens and Opera Australia young artist, soprano Lana Kains.

It was a privilege watching one of the world’s greatest sopranos coach young singers, each already of a high standard, and take their performance to the next level. The audience heard improvements made in minutes. The singers will use the learnings throughout their careers.

Opportunities such as this are prized by emerging artists, with several about to pursue international careers. Learning firsthand from Sumi Jo what is needed to succeed and how much work is required to perform in the top opera houses was invaluable.

Karen Kim is to be commended for making this event happen and David Kram for supporting it as accompanist.
