Rotary Melbourne members will be saddened to learn that David Frieze passed away on Saturday 28 August at the age of 97. He was a long-standing member of over 46 years with the Club and really enjoyed the fellowship with other members, especially during Covid. Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family on the loss of this remarkable community minded person. Funeral details will be provided to members when known. Jo also has contact details for his daughter Sally.

The Ai-Asa school on Atauro Island in Timor-Leste, which is just off the coast near Dili has been rebuilt. East Timor Roofing provided the roofing for the building with the balance, and by far the greatest amount, funded by an organisation called Spend it Well. They have been working in Timor-Leste for quite a long time and have built a number of schools there.
To celebrate Hat Day and our 40th birthday, Australian Rotary Health is hosting an online webinar on World Mental Health Day (Sunday October 10), joined by experts in youth mental health.
Rotary Melbourne passes on its condolences to past member Prof. Jane Munro AM on the passing of her husband Colin Teese on 5 August at the Gold Coast University Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday 30th August at 11am at St Peter’s Church, Southport.
International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (of which Rotary Melbourne Dr Tilman Ruff is co-president) will be hosting an important web event, "Eliminating the Existential Threat of Nuclear Weapons" September 30, at 11 AM EDT (unfortunately 1 am in Melbourne).
Our meeting guest speaker was Stephen Rando, Senior Technology Project Manager with the ANZ, engaging members in a lively discussion on Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies, concepts most of us have heard about but struggle to understand.
Ed Tudor, Executive Director of MITS (Melbourne Indigenous Transition School) has shared his 2021 Mid-Year Supporter Update so please open the attachment and take a look at how the MITS family continues to grow, with over 80 students now studying in Melbourne either in the Year 7 program or at one of our Partner Schools during 2021. Ed says that this year his students have continued to show great courage and resilience in the face of the ongoing disruptions caused by COVID-19.

Recently hand sanitiser didn't end up in landfill because Donations in Kind did what it does so well and the people who needed the assistance in Timor-Leste received it.
