Ilin-Burgos Occidental Mindoro WASH_Water Save Lives – 9 villages/barangays

To provide access to Water and Sanitation to the indigeneous Taubuid-Mangyan fishing communities of Ilin Island, San Jose and Burgos, Sablayan who have nil to water shortages, that result in water borne illnesses.  

Benefits are:

• At ILIN Island, 8 out of 10 barangay / villages (approx. 8,536 people) do rainwater collection, rotational manual collection from Ipil spring water supply or approx 6 months a year from rivers in nearby islands.

• At BURGOS, communities collect rainwater and manual collection from nearby barangays, to provide water to 469 families (approx. 2,340). Due to severe lack of water and nutrition, children miss school and daily do water collections in nearby islands.

Status:

DEC 18: Funds transfer completed to Host partner RC Lubang Island, meetings, discussions on implementation process in both areas with site BURWASA & CABIBI Water Association , PLAN International (site implementer & partner donor)

DEC 21: Groundbreaking at Bgy BURGOS, and 8 barangays of ILIN

Water for homes, community as young as 5 years old pitch in to dig the trenches

Impact on their lives. People on boats, cross the sea to go to the next island. The lady does not have to ride on a  small boat (rain or sun)  to get bucket water from a well, and walk back home or catch a ferry and WALK. Now, a water tap is close by.
