At the Rotary Melbourne meeting on 27 March 24 we witnessed the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow Award to Bill Pickett.

Our Newest Paul Harris Fellow – Bill Pickett
Citation
Bill has been a Rotarian for almost 29 years, 26 of those in our Club. Bill was inducted into our Club on 20/01/1993 with the classification ENGINEERING—PROGRAMS and at the time was General Manger Victoria for Vipac Engineering Scientists Ltd. His Sponsor was John Thompson. Bill had a previous Rotary membership with Calamba in the Philippines from 07/01/1976 to 31/12/1978.
Since joining Bill has been active in the Welfare of the Young committee where he was a champion for the Communities That Care Program - an early intervention and prevention framework to guide communities towards better health and behavioural outcomes for young children.
Bill served as the Club’s Community Services Director 1999-2001. A stalwart of the Canterbury - Waverley Group, he is presently Group Captain. Additionally, Bill is one of the Club’s Photographers and co-ordinates the Photography Team.
Bill’s involvement with Communities That Care (CTC) started in 1999 as our Club’s representative on its Board when the company was first registered. Bill has now resigned from the Board of Communities That Care ending the unbroken representation of Rotary Melbourne since CTC was established in Australia in 1999. Rotary Melbourne has been proud and supportive of the CTC model with proven effectiveness in early intervention and prevention activities and remains committed to social change for the benefit of young people. We commend CTC on pursuing the mission to “build healthy futures for young people and their families through a process of community engagement and capacity building” and know there is pride in our involvement from the start.
Bill for your outstanding commitment and efforts in representing the Club in supporting Communities That Care programs thereby reducing youth injury and violence we commend you for making a difference and have pleasure in naming you a Paul Harris Fellow.
