Reflection by Robert Fisher 30 April 25

Rotary International’s seventh area of focus – protecting the environment – was announced in 2021, joining the other categories of service that can be subject to Rotary Foundation global grants: peacebuilding and conflict prevention; water, sanitation and hygiene; disease prevention and treatment; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.

There is a global Rotary Action Group on Environmental Sustainability which concentrates on biodiversity, the circular economy, climate, food security, pollution and sustainable living. Rotary will use its expansive network to enact positive change in this field, as much as it has done so successfully in the other areas of focus, over the past 110 years.

On 11 June we have our annual Environment Lunch, which I wholly commend to you.

In the meantime, we will be hearing today from the Landscape Architect at our beloved Royal Botanic Gardens, on the edge of which of course is the recently renamed Rotary Peace Park, with its special bells that we helped put in place – eventually!

For good food and friendships through Rotary, we give thanks.

Robert Fisher
