Reflection by Robert Fisher 26 November 25

Rotary is renowned for its active involvement in community service projects that aim to enhance the lives of people who live there. These projects include support for marginalised youth, people with disabilities, the homeless and other disadvantaged individuals. We give hands-on help and offer more strategic support such as mentoring, planning and leadership. That’s what Rotarians around the world do every day.

Today we acknowledge and celebrate someone who has given exceptional service to East African communities in Melbourne’s west. Dr Fartun Farah (who unfortunately cannot be with us in person) is the chairperson of the East African Women's Foundation, which she formed in 2007.

Dr Farah has supported women, particularly migrants new to Australia, by providing advocacy and referral services, and engaging them in cultural and communal activities. They have formed a shared community and built a local support network, while retaining and celebrating their cultural heritage.

This is a wonderful example of community service in action.

For good food and friendships through Rotary, we give thanks,

Thank you Robert Fisher.
