Today we look forward to hearing from the Co-Founder of the Melbourne Arboretum.
In 2020, Rotary added Supporting the Environment as its seventh Area of Focus, because environmental challenges increasingly affect every aspect of human well-being. Issues such as climate change, pollution, loss of biodiversity and resource depletion have direct impacts on health, food security, clean water, education, economic development and community stability.
For ordinary Rotarians, the response is not necessarily to become environmental experts, but rather to include environmental stewardship in our service. This can involve practical projects such as planting trees, restoring habitats, reducing waste, protecting waterways, supporting sustainable agriculture or educating communities about conservation.
In essence, Rotary's message is simple: “Service Above Self” now includes caring for the natural environment on which all communities depend.
For good food and friendships through Rotary, we give thanks.
Thank you to Robert Fisher for last week's reflection, on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
