Rotary Melbourne President Dr Carol Bond and The Melbourne Arboretum co-founder Maggie McDonell formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a framework for the two organisations to work together in advancing environmental restoration, education and community participation. The partnership brings together the Arboretum’s long-term vision for a significant native landscape devoted particularly to Australia’s eucalypts, with Rotary Melbourne’s people, networks and strong tradition of turning worthwhile ideas into practical community action.
The partnership is intended to be active and hands-on. Anticipated activities include Rotary Activation Days at the Arboretum, opportunities for members and their families to participate in planting and other environmental projects, support for the Adopt-a-Tree program, and involvement in educational and community initiatives as the Arboretum develops. Rotary Melbourne will also contribute its considerable professional and community experience to selected projects and advisory activities. The MoU is deliberately broad, providing a foundation from which new opportunities for collaboration can grow as The Melbourne Arboretum itself develops.
