Stuart joined the Victoria Police in 1987 and performed a variety of general duty policing roles until 1992 when he was promoted to detective. Over the next 22 years Stuart worked in a number of investigative areas including organised crime, counter terrorism and homicide.

 

In early 2014 he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent of North West Metro Division 2. In this role Stuart is responsible for front line service delivery to a population of close to 500,000 people. Stuart has led significant reform in the way local police respond to family violence and formed a number of harm reduction partnerships with local drug and alcohol services. Stuart is currently the Commander of Priority Communities Division and is responsible for leading the work to ensure all Victorians feel heard, understood and valued by their police.

 

Stuart holds a Masters of Business from the University of Newcastle and a Bachelor of Policing (Investigations) from Charles Sturt University. He is a Rotary Peace Fellow having graduated from the Chulalongkorn University program in 2013. In 2015 Stuart participated in Melbourne University’s Law Enforcement and Public Health professional development program.

 

In 2017 Stuart was awarded the Australian Police Medal for distinguished service to law enforcement.
